Learning Strategy & Planning

How I Fit Portuguese Into My Week

I don’t study Portuguese full-time. I don’t even study it every day.

But I’ve built a realistic weekly rhythm that lets me keep making progress without burning out or giving up.

Here’s what a typical week looks like for me (and how you might design your own).

🧠 My Approach

I try to keep things simple, regular, and flexible.

  • No cramming
  • No guilt for missed days
  • Just small, consistent steps

📅 A Typical Week

Monday
✓ Review vocabulary (flashcards or notebook)
✓ Watch a short video with subtitles (5–10 minutes)

Tuesday
✓ Tutor session or speaking practice (if scheduled)
✓ Light grammar revision (10–15 minutes)

Wednesday
✓ Listen to a podcast while walking or cooking
✓ Write a few sentences in Portuguese (notebook)

Thursday
✓ Nothing formal, maybe read a sign, label, or quick news story in PT

Friday
✓ Review weak points or look up new words from the week

Saturday
✓ Film or show in Portuguese (with subtitles)
✓ Reflect: What did I actually improve this week?

Sunday
✓ Rest — no pressure!

🔁 Why It Works for Me

  • It’s low-pressure
  • It builds routine without boredom
  • It gives me lots of touchpoints with the language, even when time is short

Final Thought

You don’t need to do hours a day. A little here and there adds up fast, especially if it becomes part of your week.

Build a routine that fits your life and let Portuguese grow with you.
